About this course

Parent adherence to treatment recommendations can significantly impact client outcomes, yet adherence to "parent training" too often causes feelings of shame. Parental non-adherence is often misunderstood as “lack of motivation,” “resistance,” or “poor follow-through.” In many cases, caregiver behavior is influenced by stress, trauma history, socioeconomic barriers, cultural experiences, burnout, prior systems involvement, and competing contingencies. This CEU trains behavior analysts and/or RBTs to ethically and compassionately approach parental adherence through a trauma-informed lens. Participants will learn how to identify barriers without blame, build collaborative treatment plans, increase caregiver engagement, and apply relevant BACB ethics requirements during collaborative parent training. Emphasis is placed on assent or consent, dignity, cultural humility, and realistic behavior-change planning for families.
