About this course

Exposure to traumatic events is highly prevalent in the general population, with research indicating that 60–90% of individuals experience at least one potentially traumatic event in their lifetime. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are strongly associated with increased risk for behavioral, emotional, and health-related difficulties. Given the populations served by behavior analysts, practitioners are statistically likely to work with individuals impacted by trauma — whether disclosed or not. This CEU introduces Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) as a universal, precautionary framework for ABA service delivery. Participants will examine epidemiological data on ACEs, clarify misconceptions about TIC, and differentiate between trauma therapy and trauma-informed practice. The presentation integrates peer-reviewed literature from Behavior Analysis in Practice and related journals to evaluate how safety, trust, choice, empowerment, and cultural responsiveness can be behaviorally operationalized.
