About this course
Applied Behavior Analysis has evolved significantly since its formal articulation in 1968. While the seven dimensions established by Baer, Wolf, and Risley emphasized social significance and effectiveness, contemporary practice increasingly recognizes the importance of client dignity, autonomy, and emotional safety in the delivery of behavioral services. This CEU explores compassionate care and assent-based practice as behaviorally grounded, ethically responsible extensions of core ABA principles. Participants will review research on therapeutic alliance, social validity, and the empirical foundations of assent-based treatment for severe problem behavior. The presentation integrates findings from peer-reviewed literature in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and Behavior Analysis in Practice, including recent work on compassionate treatment models and differential responding to dangerous behavior.
